A Hidden Gem in Inishowen, Co. Donegal

If you're looking for a hidden gem to explore on your next trip to Ireland, look no further than Leenkeel Beach. Tucked away at the feet of Mamore Gab in Inishowen, Co. Donegal, this beach may not be kilometres long or boast endless stretches of sand, but it's sure to take your breath away with its magical beauty.

A Place of Many Waters

One thing that makes Leenkeel Beach so special is the abundance of water. It's not just the sea that greets you here - on the left side, near the rocks, a river reaches its outfall, running through the stones. Many streams come out of the sand to meet the sea, creating a mesmerizing sky mirror effect that reflects the clouds in the wet sand.

A Small but Stunning Beach

Leenkeel Beach may not be extended, stretching just 500 meters, but it packs a punch in natural beauty. The beach ends with rocks full of paddles and tiny sea animals far from Lenan Pier. Unfortunately, although the beach is relatively quiet, it's not very accessible for those with buggies or wheelchairs due to the many rocks that can make access difficult.

A Great Place for Sea Treasure Hunting

If you're a fan of sea treasure hunting, Leenkeel Beach won't disappoint. There are plenty of sea glass and beautiful pebbles here, so many that you'll likely leave the beach with your pockets full.

Breathtaking Views and Scenic Walks

As you take in the beauty of Leenkeel Beach, enjoy the stunning views of Ballymastocker Bay on the other side of Swilly and the Mamore and Urris hills surrounding the beach. For those with enough energy and time, a scenic mountain walk to Urris Lakes begins just 50 meters from the wee car park.

A Perfect Spot for a Day Trip

Leenkeel Beach may not be the most well-known destination in Ireland, but that's part of its charm. It's a perfect spot for a day trip, offering a mix of sand, rocks, and water, breathtaking views, and mesmerizing sounds. So if you're looking for a lovely day out in Donegal, add Leenkeel Beach to your list of must-visit spots.
